What is climate change?

Generally, changes in the weather are called climate change. But there is so much to know about it. Climate refers to the long-term regional or global average of temperature, humidity, and rainfall patterns over seasons, years, or decades. Climate change is the long-term shift in the Earth’s average temperatures and weather conditions. For example, in the 19th century to the 20th century, the average temperature was 1.2 degrees Celsius warmer worldwide. Climate change is also referred to as global warming. It is really a big problem for our next generation.

Particularly, the burning of fossil fuels (such as coal, oil, and natural gas), deforestation, industrial processes, and agricultural practices release greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O), into the atmosphere. These greenhouse gases have a significant impact on Earth, causing rising sea levels, desertification turning into greenery, melting ice, etc.

Not only that, but in Asia, there are more visible changes. For example, in Bangladesh, there are six seasons in that country: Summer (Grisma ritu), Rainy (Barsha ritu), Autumn (Sarat ritu), Late Autumn (Hemanta ritu), Winter (Shitt ritu), and Spring (Basanto ritu). These are the six seasons normally in Bangladesh. But now, due to climate change, the seasons are delayed by about one month instead of when they were supposed to be. As a result, the people of Bangladesh are facing many problems. For example, Non-rainfall during the rainy season requires more water to be applied to the crops and increases the cost to the farmer. Not only that, the lack of water causes many crop failures. As a result, there is a great impact on the economy of Bangladesh. Summer and winter seasons are causing the same problem in the economy of Bangladesh.
